It was an exciting moment. Shannon Gonzalez, a representative of Target, spoke before the East Palo Alto City Council on Wednesday, July 12 about the opening of a new Target store in East Palo Alto.

Gonzalez said that the grand opening of Target’s East Palo Alto store will take place on Sunday, July 23. The 50,000-square-foot-store will be located at 1775 East Bayshore Road in the Ravenswood 101 Shopping Center and it will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. The grand opening, itself, will take place at 8 a.m.

Lisa Gauthier, an East Palo Alto City Council member, stated “We are
looking forward to the opening of Target and the benefits that it will
bring to the community.”

Target will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for community representatives on Tuesday, July 18 and a soft opening the following day.

According to Gonzalez, Target is thrilled to open its first store in East Palo Alto. She also stated that the company values the “diversity and sense of community” that is in East Palo Alto.

Target currently has ninety team members at the East Palo Alto location. Of this number, Gonzalez stated that  nearly 70% of their staff are East Palo Alto residents.” Eventually, the store will employ 120 people. Gonzalez said that the store's employees are provided several opportunities to advance in the company throughout their employment at Target.
