East Palo Alto police officers witnessed a busy start to 2015. The East Palo Alto Police Department received calls on the first day of the new year about multiple gunshots being fired in one city neighborhood. The shots were fired about 2:15 a.m.

According to department officials, several police officers narrowly escaped being shot as they searched the vicinity of Oakwood Drive and Palo Verde Avenue for the source of the gunfire. Officers were able to identify the house from which the gunshots were fired and detained eight individuals.

East Palo Alto's new Police Chief, Albert Pardini, issued a statement thanking "all of the law enforcement agencies and our Interim City Manager Carlos Martinez for responding to the scene and bringing the incident to an end with no injuries to anyone."

Pardini said, "As we begin the new year, we want to remember that guns in our community in the wrong hands pose a danger to all of us. Guns may be turned in at the police station; let's work together to protect our community! On behalf of the members of the East Palo Alto Police Department we wish you and yours a safe and happy new year! "

The East Palo Alto Police Department is actively seeking information from any members of the public who have information about the New Years Eve incident and requests that anyone with information call the East Palo Alto Police at (650) 321-1112 or the anonymous Tip Line at (650) 409-6792.
