A 22 year old male was shot and killed and another juvenile male was injured when multiple gunshots were fired after a verbal exchange Friday in East Palo Alto.

The East Palo Alto Police said that they were alerted to the gunshot victims when a call was received at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, March 1, requesting emergency police services in the 500 block of Runnymede Avenue. Several Shotspotter activations indicated multiple gunshots at that location.

When the police arrived, they saw the two shooting victims in the yard of one of the residences at that location. East Palo Alto resident, Gerardo Osegeura, suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Responding paramedics tried to treat Osegeura, but the police said that he succumbed to his injuries in the yard of the residence where he was found.

The second gunshot victim, a juvenile male, who was also found in the yard of the same residence, was given emergency treatment and taken to a nearby hospital.

In their preliminary investigation of the shooting incident, the police reported that "the victim had been standing in the yard of a residence talking with someone. A black colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled up to a nearby residence. The Hispanic male driver of the vehicle and Osegeura exchanged words, and then numerous shots were fired. The black colored vehicle and its occupants then fled the area."
