Third week of the new year turns deadly for one shooting victim.

A 24 year old man became East Palo Alto's first homicide of the year. The victim, who was shot, was discovered when East Palo Alto Police responded to a Shotspotter activation, which picked up gunshots in the 2600 block of Illinois Street at 3:47 a.m. on Monday, January 14.

The victim, identified as Jonathan Alcazar, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Shortly after Alcazar's body was discovered, the police reported that a second victim arrived at a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. He remains in critical condition and has not been identified.

The East Palo Alto Police are currently investigating the shooting and have no suspects.

A day before this shooting incident, the police reported that a 34 year old East Palo Alto resident was stabbed at an apartment complex on the 400 block of East O'Keefe Street in East Palo Alto.

The police were called to this incident by witnesses who heard the victim calling for help. The witnesses said that when they were awakened by screams, they looked out of their window, saw the victim being attacked, and scared his attacker away.

In the stabbing incident, the police arrested David Yun, a 30 year old East Palo Alto resident, whom they later booked into the San Mateo County Jail for attempted murder and domestic violence.

As with the shooting incident on Monday and with the stabbing incident on Sunday, the East Palo Alto Police are requesting that anyone with information about either incident contact their department by:
