Shooting leaves one dead and four seriously wounded


Friday, March 20, 2009 at approximately 9:29 P.M, Police were alerted to multiple gunshots through our Shot Spotter system. While responding to the area, officers began to receive phone calls from citizens on the 2200 block of Addison Avenue to report a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located a shooting victim deceased in the driveway of an Addison Avenue home. The deceased victim was identified as, William Sandoval, an East Palo Alto resident.


Officers located a second victim, a juvenile suffering a gunshot wound to his ankle. His injuries were not life threatening and is listed in stable condition at a local hospital. While on scene we received information from a local hospital that three more shooting victims had arrived with life threatening gunshot wounds to their upper body and face. The third victim was identified as, Roman Soria, an East Palo Alto resident sustained a gunshot wound to his face. Soria is currently listed in critical condition. The fourth victim identified as, Eduardo Contreras, an East Palo Alto resident sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Contreras is listed in critical, but in stable condition. The fifth victim identified as, Ismael Velasquez, sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Velasquez is listed in critical condition.


The preliminary investigation has revealed this shooting is related to an altercation between unwanted guests at a party. The situation then escalated to a fight. During the altercation an unknown suspect fired several gunshots into the crowd striking five, mortally wounding one.
